Mother's Day :D

Happy early Mother's Day! I'm bringing this up now because I have a really sweet poem about mothers called To My Mother by the poet Robert Louis Stevenson. It is found here---------> Poets.org. I hope you like it. Show it to your mothers and grandmothers and wish them a happy Mother's Day!

Guardian Angel

I wrote this poem a while back. Its not the best but I thought I would share it anyways. 

Guardian Angel

You were born at night with soft baby skin and glowing brown eyes.

A happy baby you were when you were brought into this world of misery and deceit.

But there was happiness and laughter too.

My Darling, you found and absorbed the little bit of light that goodness gave.

But with goodness there is evil and with light there is darkness.

No Matter how much goodness you obtained darkness and evil seeped into the cracks.

The darkness brought misery and took away your beautiful, round, laughing, smiling face.

It gave you pneumonia and made you suffer.

It gave you cancer and took away your kidney.

I can’t fight every battle for you and I felt helpless for I couldn’t help you choose right from wrong.

But I could stay by your side.

Help you through thick and thin.

And when the going got to tough and you couldn’t recover.

I gave you my kidney.

When the going gets to tough and I’m not around.

Remember I will always be with you though you may not see me.

I will always be

Your mentor,

Your lover

Your friend,

Your sister.

I am your guardian angel.

Last month Emma went to a state poem and story reading. She read her poem The Quilt. Emma let me post her poem on my blog so here it is. Enjoy.

The Quilt

I am a quilt,

All ragged and worn.

This is the story

Of how I was born.

Mamma made me

For her baby boy.

I was stitched with love,

I would bring him joy.

The first piece was special,

It was from Daddy’s shirt.

The child would feel comfort

When he was hurt.

I had part of Mama’s apron

So she’d always be near.

She happily gave her pocket

To her little one so dear.

Grandpa’s overalls were next,

To make baby brace and strong.

He would think of Grandpa always.

And he would never go wrong.

Grandma’s blouse was part of me,

It always felt so good.

That boy felt happy when he hugged me,

Just the way he  should.

More Pieces were added,

They each had a part.

They all told a story

That came from the heart.

And so I was finished,

The last stitch was made.

He was born a few days later,

On my softness he was laid.

As a baby he sat on me,

He played all day long.

His mama would watch him,

She’d sing him a song.

Later I was thrown on chairs,

And a tent a became.

The boy played underneath me,

It was his favorite game.

On winter nights I’d wrap him up,

While the cold winds blew.

Mama and Daddy told him stories

Of my pieces, old and new.

On summer nights we’d go outside,

He’d lay me on the ground.

He looked at stars and dreamed his dreams,

Knowing I kept him safe and sound.

I went with him to college,

Then out into the world.

As time went by, there was a marriage,

And soon, a baby girl!

The years went by, the family grew,

And always I was passed

From one generation to the next.

I had been made to last!

My colors faded, my edges frayed,

I looked a little old!

But the stories of my pieces

Never aged as they were told.

Yes, I am a quilt

All ragged and worn.

But I’ve been dearly loved

Since the day I was born!

Juggles eggs very quickly.

Entertains many people.

Is always there for you.

Finds something to do everyday.

Executes a very polite nature.

Name Poem How To

In a name poem you use a name, hence the type of poem. You write the name vertically on the paper. You then write an adjective or a sentence starting with the letter of the name that is running vertically down your paper. This can be silly or serious depending on what you are using the poem for.

Daisy-My Example of a Limerick

There once was an elephant named Daisy,
If you ever saw her she was on the couch being lazy.
She sat on the couch,
She was a big grouch,
Everything she remembered was hazy. 

Limerick

In a limerick, the last word of lines one and two rhyme. In lines three and four the last words rhyme, but they do not rhyme with one and two. The last word of the last line, line five, then rhymes with lines one and two. This poem should sound almost like a beat. 

What I think of Poems

I think that anything can be a poem. It doesn’t need to rhyme.  A poem to me is a pretty little saying.  Poems are a way I express myself in life. I think poems are cute and pretty. They can have a meaning and be serious. They don't have to make sense they can be fun and nonsensical. 

Roses

Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

Sugar is sweet,

And life used to be, too.

But now the roses are wilted,

The violets are dead.

My life is unhappy

Now that you’ve taken her instead

I thought that you loved me

But now that I know you don’t.

I’m sad and unhappy

All I do is mope

She is pretty and sweet

Like roses should be

But this violets unhappy

Since you had to leave.

I will always be faithful

I love you that much

But this heart won’t be yours

Until I trust you enough.

She loves you now

But what about then?

Will she love and care for you

At lives bitter end

If you come back to me now

Be ready for a fight

My heart has just mended

From the dark to the light.
